HOT on the heels of their first ever tournament victory, Ellesmere Port Under 7s have captured another title.

The team held their nerve in a tense penalty shootout to triumph in the Vauxhall Motors Festival of Football at Rivacre Park - a victory that came just two weeks after their maiden tournament success at Eastham.

Port won their group stage with draws against Vicars Cross and West Kirby, and wins against Vaux-hall Zafira, Paramount, Neston Nomads Knights, Glenavon Eagles and Glans Rangers.

A 1-0 success over Neston Nomads in the quarter-finals served up a last-four meeting with Glenavon Hawks, which Port won by the same scoreline.

The final was against Vauxhall Astra and, after normal time and extra time failed to produce any goals, spot-kicks were required to settle the match. Port finished on top, winning the shootout 4-3 to spark celebrations from the team and their parents.

* Whitby Rangers are recruiting players for their under 10s team next season.

Anyone interested in joining must be 10 before August 31. The team trains at every Friday at Seacombe Drive playing fields, behind the Sir Robert pub (6pm start).
