Malpas 2 Daten 2

STAND-IN Malpas boss Robbie McWilliams saluted his hard-working players after they claimed a point on Saturday.

McWilliams has taken the reins until a suitable replacement can be found for the recently-departed Alan Smith.

Malpas started brightly against Daten and went a goal up on 25 minutes when good work from Andrew Woodward set free Rob Kennerley, whose pinpoint cross was met and finished smartly by new signing Roy Cardus.

On the half-hour mark, Daten were gifted an equaliser but Malpas regain the lead – against the run of play – in the 73rd minute thanks to Ricky Smith’s powerful header from a Kennerley corner.

There were only eight minutes remaining when Daten drew level courtesy of a deflected 15-yard shot.

McWilliams said: ‘The last three games have seen a marked improvement in the cohesion of the team. We are really working hard for each other at present.’

Malpas will be without Andrew Woodward through suspension when they take on Morda tomorrow but Rob Martin returns.

Tarporley Victoria 2 Billinge 3

VICS came out on the losing side despite playing their part in an entertaining game.

The hosts took the lead when Henry Buckley flicked in Alex Moore’s knockdown, but Billinge grabbed an equaliser before the break.

The game became end to end in the second half. Vics regained their lead through Luke Heritage, but Billinge snatched the points with two late goals.

Despite the disappointment, Tarporley remain well-placed in third. They travel to Warrington Town Reserves tomorrow.
