OAKLANDS were dramatically beaten in the Cheshire Sunday Cup semi-finals at Seddon Street.

They bowed out to Offerton United on penalties after the teams had cancelled each other out and neither could find the net with the few clear-cut chances created. Only a week earlier, Oaklands had disposed of Pockets in the Mid Cheshire Sunday League Cup in a shoot-out.

The best chance for holders Oaklands fell with five minutes remaining to Craig Dewhurst, and his header was turned around the post by a fantastic save. Ironically, it was Dewhurst who missed his spot kick.

Sky TV filmed the action for a feature on ex-Northwich Vics boss Jimmy Quinn, which was transmitted on Monday evening and included interviews with manager Robbie Antrobus and veteran Eddie Bishop. It was part of the build-up to Monday's live Conference match between Leigh and Quinn's new charges Shrewsbury.

Hanging Gate made sure of the First Division runners-up spot with a 4-2 win at Lion in preparation for Sunday's District FA Cup final against Oaklands at Witton Albion. Wheatsheaf are Division One champs.
