CHESTER boss Mark Wright may sign a new goalkeeper this week with the news that Ian McCaldon could have played his final game for the club.

He has decided to emigrate to Australia , despite efforts to make him change his mind, and with number one keeper Wayne Brown ruled out for another month following a foot injury Wright is desperate to find a replacement.

He has been linked with the former Rushden and Diamonds and Farnborough veteran Tony Pennock, who is currently with Carmarthen Town. Chester , who have no game on Saturday, would need international clearance before he would be eligible to play.

McCaldon kept a clean sheet at Wincham Park on Saturday where City outclassed the Conference's bottom club, particularly in the second half when Vics hardly had a kick.

By then Cty were 2-0 up and it should have been more. Top scorer Daryl Clare had a penalty saved by Andy Woods in the 22nd minute and the goalkeeper also denied Stamp who was also a whisker away from scoring in the opening minutes.

The deadlock was broken on 34 minutes with a stunning 20 yard free-kick from Kevin McIntyre and three minutes before the break another free-kick from the defender was turned in by Stamp.

McCaldon had to make saves from Stephen Nicholas and Kieran Charnock in the first half, but he had little to do after the break when Chester dominated the game.

Clare made up for his penalty blunder on 49 minutes from an Alex Smith cross and three minutes later Stamp cleverely chipped Woods for the fourth.

Woods saved Northwich from a bigger defeat with fine saves from Jamie Heard and Clare and Stamp's header was denied by the woodwork.

Chester: McCaldon, Collins, McIntyre, Bolland, Carden, Carey (Davies 86), Clare (Rapley 77), Smith, Stamp (Twiss 77), Guyett. Subs: Foster, Harris.

Attendance: 2,141
