Chester FC 's clash at home to Southport this evening will go ahead as planned.

Torrential rain for much of Monday and overnight cast some doubt over whether the game would beat the weather for tonight's clash with former Blues boss Steve Burr's Sandgrounders (7.45pm kick off).

But no pitch inspection is planned at the Lookers Vauxhall Stadium for the rest of the day with the break in the rain earlier today providing the pitch with a chance to drain.

General manager Tony Allan said: "There is no planned inspection and we expect the game to go ahead as planned.

"The way the pitch is here and how well it drains means that the brief break in the rain we have had has allowed the water to drain and we don't envisage any problems."

Burr will be returning to the Lookers Vauxhall Stadium for the first time since being sacked as manager back in April of this year.
