JAMIE CARRAGHER says next season can’t come soon enough as he is relishing being part of Liverpool’s resurgence under Kenny Dalglish.

The experienced centre-back was a model of consistency during a turbulent campaign at Anfield.

However, rather than welcome the chance to rest after a gruelling nine months, Carragher didn’t want the action to end.

“I’m disappointed the season has finished to be honest,” he said.

“I know we didn’t finish well in the last two games but the last four or five months have been really enjoyable. We had been doing quite well and you start loving the game again.

“It had been a difficult 18 months before that but we started to get in the groove. When you are enjoying it you just want the season to keep going.

“I always find it difficult to switch off even in the summer. I’m already thinking about next season.

“You are always thinking about who is coming in, who is going and then when the fixtures come out who we have got in the first game. It never stops.”

Owners Fenway Sports Group have vowed to give boss Kenny Dalglish the financial backing to strengthen his squad this summer.

Carragher is excited about the prospect of Dalglish and director of football Damien Comolli bringing in quality reinforcements to ensure the progress made in the second half of the season is built on next term.

“People always think as players we know what’s going on with transfers but we are like the supporters,” he added.

“You pick up bits and bobs off different people, just like the fans do. We all love to see ourselves going for top players and bringing them in.

“But that’s nothing to do with me. That’s up to the manager and Damien Comolli, and who they decide is good enough. They know what they are doing.

“My job is just to play. From a personal point of view I’ll come back next season, start again and try to be successful for Liverpool.”

Meanwhile, Reds midfielder Maxi Rodriguez says he’s loving life at Anfield and is targeting a top four finish in the Premier League next season.

The Argentina international finished the campaign strongly with two hat-tricks in three games taking his tally for the season to 10.

“Personally, I’m very happy,” he said.

“I finished the season with lots of goals but also the team’s performances were improved.

“The team did not start well but we almost turned it around to reach Europe. We must return to the Champions League next season.”
