NEW WITTON manager Gary Finley has made his first signing and there may be two more before Witton Albion leave for Bridlington Town on Saturday.

Adam Farley, who made a Premiership appearance for Everton five years ago, is Finley's first recruit.

He is a centre half who can play right back.

Farley, 24, broke a cheekbone shortly after breaking into the first team and never re-established himself. He was released in 2000 and joined Altrincham, then Burscough before ending up at Droylsden.

Finley said: 'He is versatile and has been with good clubs as well as playing in a higher league.

'He was in the plans at Droylsden and I was able to persuade him Witton are going forward and he wants to be part of it.

'I am speaking to two players - a midfielder and forward - about coming to us on a month's loan, with a view to a longer stay depending on all the parties concerned, of course.'

Defence, given Albion's not unimpressive record - 16 conceded in 19 league games - may not require urgent attention, but Farley was too good to resist and beside, said Finley: 'I look at the bigger picture. We defend as a team and score as a team. If you don't concede your confidence grows.'

Witton have picked up six points from the three games under Finley.

'It has been a half-decent start, but I have only been here 10 days. It takes a little longer to get to know the players and get them to understand how I want them to play.

'Getting consistency in non-league is never easy.

'I understand Bridlington are a big, strong and direct side, so I expect a battle,' he said.

Re-joining the campaign soon is attacker Craig Sargeson who broke his arm before the start of the season and is fast regaining fitness.

'He is looking good,' said Finley.

But there are doubts over winger Darrell Dicken, who turned up for the first time since Finley's appointment on Saturday, but was not at training on Monday.

Witton Youth won 3-2 at Hanley on Sunday.
