STUART Musgrave grabbed a hat-trick as Malpas thrashed Lostock Reserves in their opening home game of the season in Division Two on Wednesday.

Musgrave scored two goals in the opening 15 minutes, one of them set up by Ben Briscoe who had an outstanding game on his league debut. The striker turned provider on 35 minutes when he created the chance for Sam Digby to give the hosts a 3-0 interval lead.

Lostock were unlucky when they hit the bar, but it was business as usual after the break as Digby quickly made it 4-0 and then Musgrave completed his hat-trick.

Malpas made changes late in the game and Lostock hit back with two consolation goals.

Said Malpas manager Tommy Lloyd: 'We hammered Lostock. It was a very convincing victory.'

But he was unhappy with the behaviour of some of the Gamesley players last Saturday when a Musgrave goal earned Malpas a 1-1 draw at Glossop.

'Some of their challenges were disgraceful,' he said.

'Things got very nasty at one stage and it upset some of my younger players. I am glad to get that game out of the way.'

Malpas are at home to newcomers Club AZ tomorrow and on Wednesday, Winsford United Reserves are the visitors (6.30pm).
