THE Motormen's hopes of a lucrative FA Cup run were dashed on Saturday with a performance boss Carl Macauley said offered 'no positives'.

Vauxhall fell at the second qualifying-round stage to UniBond Premier League outfit Witton and could have no complaints as they were totally outplayed by their hosts.

Macauley said: 'We just didn't turn up on the day, we weren't at the races.

'I can take no positives from the game because there were none. We didn't get started and Witton completely outplayed us and deserved to go through.

'The FA Cup is important to small clubs like us because it can give us a big financial boost, so I wish Witton well and hope they go on to get a big lucrative draw along the line.'

The Motormen fell behind in the fifth minute when Albion defender Jody Barras stooped to head home from close range past stranded keeper Sean Lake.

It could have got even worse for the Conference North visitors, but Steve Connors' 25-yard shot cannoned back off the bar on 13 minutes.

Midway through the half, Lake produced a fantastic double save to deny Witton's Shaun Whalley just seconds after Brian Moogan shot wide from 20 yards in Motors' first raid on goal.

Vauxhall's best opportunity of the half arrived on 25 minutes when Karl O'Donnell released Anthony Wright whose shot was smothered by Albion keeper Jon Worsnop.

After the break, Moogan saw another shot saved on the hour mark while a Stephen McNulty header flashed wide from a corner with 13 minutes remaining as the visitors chased an equaliser.

But Albion doubled their lead on 80 minutes when Mark Peers danced through the defence before slotting home beyond Lake.

Soon after, Witton substitute Carl Frost wasted a great chance as he headed wide but Peers finished the tie off by completing his brace to rub further salt into the Vauxhall wounds as he ran through unchallenged to score from the edge of the area.

Macauley added: 'If I had the options, I would make changes after a performance like that.

'But we have a small squad at best and when we are missing enough players to warrant my inclusion on the bench you know things are desperate so the boys will have to bounce back and prove to me they can make the rest of our season a success.

'I think we can recover quickly as we have played well in the league and this was just one bad game but it was a very bad game in an important fixture.'
