VAUXHALL MOTORS RES threw their hat in the ring again for the Carlsberg West Cheshire League's Division One title after beating current leaders Poulton Vics.
The 2003 champions savoured goals from Nick Simber and Alan Griffiths in Saturday's 2-0 victory.
The Motormen are in action tonight against West Kirby at Ashville (7.30pm) to decide who will face Poulton Vics in the Pyke Cup final.
Vics secured their passage in midweek, after a solitary strike from Kevin Davies curtailed the interest of Maghull.
There was further disappointment for Maghull, after a Gary Reay effort clinched three points for reigning champions Heswall at Gayton Park. Aintree Villa won by the same scoreline against Chris-tleton thanks to a fine goal from Andy Johnston, while Dave Rudge and Paul Mort bagged goals in New Brighton's 2-1 eclipse of Castrol Social.
Relegation-threatened Mallaby, posted their third win after Ben Bennett, Chris Dunne and Shaun Keevey found the net in a crucial 3-1 win at Ashville.
Division Two leader Maghull Res consolidated their position at the top following a 3-1 win against Ashville's second string, courtesy of a goal apiece from Dave Oxton, Ged Maloney and Brian Ward. Upton AA came unstuck in their Chester derby with Blacon YC. Matty McQuillan was a two-goal star, and Aaron Stokoe added a third, as third-placed Blacon emerged 3-2 victors.
A Kevin Rigby hat-trick anchored Manweb to a 5-2 decision over Chester Nomads, while Run-corn Town Reserves' Kevin Ward hit four in his side's 6-2 rout of Helsby.
West Kirby Reserves extended their lead at the top of Division Three to nine points, after goals from Carl Maughan, Terry Cot-grave and Ian Laughlan secured a 3-0 win over promotion rivals Focus. Nearest rivals, Bebington Athletic had James Douglas and James Hough on the mark, but dropped three points, after replies from Ryan Butcher(2) and Dave Roberts set visitors, Upton AA Reserves up for a 3-2 victory.
Brett Walcott, John Deakin and Paul Coventry made the scoresheet in Bronze Social's 3-0 verdict over bottom club Shaftes-bury and a Nick Cushing double was supplemented by further efforts from Ian Armstrong and Craig Webb as Grange Athletic won 4-3 against Mersey Royal.
In Saturday morning's Youth Subsidiary Cup competition, two goals from Dave O'Leary helped Maghull to a 3-2 result against New Brighton.
