NEWLY-PROMOTED Westminster cranked up their challenge for the Ellesmere Port and District's Sunday League's Premier Division title, with two-goal Tony Ashton leading the way in a convincing 5-1 rout of Vauxhalls.

Brothers Carl and Wayne Ngiam also found the net, with Lee Powell adding a fifth for good measure, as Westminster trumpeted their challenge and left the Motormen welcoming the final whistle.

Sir Robert's 2-0 victory over Phoenix, was confirmed by a goal apiece from Marc Evans and Steve Craven while Graham Davies (2) and Garmon Foulkes applied the finishing touches, as Princes Rovers edged a 3-2 decision over Woodlands.

Craig Thomas and Simon Parker hit the home side's consolations.

In Division One, there was no stopping four-goal hot-shot, Eric Fogg, who pulled out all the stops in FC Sportsman's emphatic 8-1 victory over Parkside Rovers, Lee Hearn claiming Rovers' response.

Two goals from Travellers Rest's Phil Evans, were nullified by a double from White Swan's Simon Sandford while John Chidlow, Colin Brazier and Neil Daley contributed a goal each, as King-kabs celebrated a 3-1 success over Phoenix Res.

A brace from Jake Lloyd and a Trevor Roberts effort, failed to prevent Cat from being found out by promotion-chasing Thomas Telford, who cruised home 6-3, thanks to neat finishing from Robbie Davies (3) Steve James (2) and Paul Gates.

Mike Williams was a two-goal hero, with Lee Salisbury also making the scoresheet, as SC Red Lion overhauled goals from Sutton Villa's Ian Kelly and Gary Handley.

The Bull recorded the same 3-2 winning margin against RBL Little Sutton, with Scott Ellis recording a fine double and Ian Higginson grabbing the additional goal.

Elsewhere, despite goals from Alex Bainbridge and Andrew Blain, Event Mobile Tyres finished second best to attack-minded Milestone, who toasted the efforts of marksmen Steve Winterburn, John Murphy, Chris Tew, Mike Turner and John Davies after their 5-2 win which leaves them handily placed in the league.

Sunday was certainly a day to forget for Ellesmere Port League clubs who competed in the Wirral FA Premier Cup second round, with all four representatives coming a cropper to local opposition.

The biggest surprise was the elimination of strongly-fancied Castrol Tessuti, who failed to get the better of Royal Sun Alliance in normal time, and bowed out after a dramatic penalty shoot-out.

Merton Travel Marquis and Old Wirral Hundred both slumped to 5-0 defeats at the hands of Bidston Hotel and Brow respectively, and to add insult to injury, Merebrook tumbled 4-0 at Poulton Royal.

A welcome return to the bread and butter of league action this Sunday, should see Premier Division title favourites Castrol Tessuti get back to winning ways against Woodlands, and Westminster also look set to profit against Old Wirral Hundred.

Thomas Telford appear look too good to oppose against Event Mobile Tyres in Division One, and the pick of the rest should see an even contest between King-kabs and The Bull.
