A MAKE-OR-BREAK Easter campaign saw Vauxhall Motors capitalise on their opportunity and give themselves breathing space in the relegation dogfight.

The Motormen took four points from their two games - without which they would have been dragged into the drop zone.

Carl Macauley's men started the weekend with a 1-1 draw at Hinckley United on Saturday, despite losing influential captain Steve McNulty and in-form striker Lee Furlong to injury.

Motors fell behind after six minutes to a long-range effort from Mark Cooper, but returning Brian Moogan lashed a 25-yard free kick past the despairing Sean Bowles to make it all square.

On Monday, Rivacre Park played host to the Dolly Blues of Lancaster City.

Although still missing key players, the Motormen were ruthless, beating their already relegated visitors 4-1.

Thomas Rooney did the spade work down the left for the first, outpacing his marker before pulling the ball back for Anthony Wright to instinctively steer it into the far corner.

The second came after Rooney raced through, only to see his shot hit the far post. Wright retrieved the situation and set up youngster Keith Smith for his first goal for the club.

Five minutes before the break it was 3-0 to the hosts as Rooney ran through, holding off the challenge of two City defenders to finally claim a goal of his own.

On 62 minutes visiting substitute Lee Sparks pulled one back for Lancaster, as a dangerous cross from the right was rescued by Aaron Helliwell and he pulled a pass back for Sparks to hammer home.

But Motors kept peppering the City goal and on 81 minutes got their reward when Brindley could only partially palm away Rooney's fiercely-struck shot. Wright was on hand to convert his second of the afternoon and wrap up the points, which lifted Motors up five places in the table to 14th.

* Motors travel to Blyth Spartans tomorrow (3pm) and are back in action at Rivacre Park on Tuesday, when Redditch United are the visitors (7.45pm).
