MIDDLEWICH Town will provide both Mid Cheshire Amateur Cup finalists for the second year running.

Their two sides beat the reserve teams of both senior Northwich clubs in Saturday's semis.

Town's seniors beat Northwich Vics 3-0 while their own reserves defeated Witton Albion 2-0, thanks to a Paul Allen penalty and Lewis Warren.

Last year was the first time only one club had been represented in the final.

'We're getting used to it,' said first-team boss Terry Murphy. 'But it is good for the club.'

He watched his own side triumph in a dull game at Moss Farm. Both teams won first-half penalties, Vics missing theirs while Ian Stanton fired Middlewich into the lead.

Middlewich were in command throughout the second period, though neither side hit their best form. Adam Morris broke from the halfway line to increase the lead and John Hurst finished the best move of the match to put the holders through.

A date and venue for the final has to be decided.

Barnton 1 Bollington 2

BARNTON lost their long unbeaten record at Townfield Lane and opened the MCL title race a little wider at the same time.

They started lethargically and never recovered from conceding two early goals. Sloppy defending cost them dear in two and 12 minutes. Barnton were a shadow of themselves and created very few opportunities in the first half.

Things did improve slightly in the second half, but Steve Davies missed from six yards and Aidan Brodigan struck a post.

They did get a goal back with eight minutes remaining when Dave Murray fed Chris Gehgan, who poked home the rebound after Paul Hennin's shot had been parried.

Barnton's FA National Systems Cup semi-final is against the South West League, who beat Gloucester 4-2 at the weekend. The tie is pencilled in for April 17 in Cornwall.

Saturday: One - Golborne v Middlewich, Styal v Barnton; Two - Witton Res v Malpas; Reserves - Barnton v Golborne.

Tuesday at Witton Albion, Reserves Division Cup final: Linotype v Poynton. WINNINGTON AVENUE RES pushed title chasers Congleton Athletic all the way in the Crewe League before going down 4-3. Mark Baiton (2) and Gary Nelson scored.

Dave Murphy scored for WINSFORD IPC in their 6-1 defeat at home to Bentley.
