MARINE have completed the signing of one-time Vauxhall Motors goalkeeper Andy Ralph.
The 22-year-old renews his links with Mariners boss Alvin McDonald, who was manager at Vauxhall Motors when Ralph's penalty-saving heroics earned the Motormen their historic FA Cup win at Queens Park Rangers in November 2002.
Ralph, who has played in several of Marine's pre-season games, was with Bangor City during the Welsh club's Intertoto Cup exploits in Europe earlier in the summer after finishing last season on loan from Northwich Victoria at Witton Albion.
"I am delighted to have Andy on board," said McDonald, who watched his new signing pull off a series of impressive second half saves in Saturday's 1-1 draw with Altrincham at College Road.
Colin Little gave Altrincham an 80th minute lead, but Lee Kissock equalised a minute later for Marine before being sent off after a goalmouth flare-up.
Vauxhall Motors completed their pre-season build-up with a 2-1 home win over Southport.
Steve Daly had given the Sandgrounders an interval lead, but goals in the final 10 minutes from Paul Addo and Peter Cumiskey gave the Motormen victory.
And Vauxhall boss Owen Brown, who signed left-sided player Sam McNutt from Southport after the game, said: "A result like that gives the lads a massive lift for the new season. It was exactly what we needed."
But Southport's preparations for their return to the Nationwide Conference next Saturday were hit by injuries to defender Neil Fitzhenry and midfielder Dominic Krief.
Both players are rated as doubtul for the Sand-grounders' opening game at Dagenham and Redbridge.
Prescot Cables continued their build-up to the new UniBond League season with a 5-1 win at Congleton Town, their goals coming from Shaun Tuck, who netted twice, Jason Massie, Carl Noone and Joe Feeney.
Burscough won 6-3 at Skelmersdale United.
Mark Byrne, Martin Crow-der, Ryan Bowen, summer signing Tony Gray, Paul Gedman and Dave Rowan were on target for the Linnets, with Skem's goals coming from Steve Dee, Carl Osman and Craig Noone.
Formby beat Yorkshire side Rossington Main 3-1 at home, and Warrington Town drew 3-3 at Salford City.
Cammell Laird lost 2-0 at Welsh outfit Airbus UK, and St Helens Town drew 0-0 at home with Rossendale United.
