CHESTER CITY'S new-look squad reports back for training today, with the 10 summer acquisitions joining up with six of the squad who were with the club last season.

City's signing spree continued last night when they completed the transfer of the Doncaster Rovers defender Simon Marples on a two-year deal.

The transfer activity won't stop with Marples as Tranmere defender Paul Linwood is expected to complete formalities tomorrow and City are hopeful of signing midfielder Ricky Ravenhill next week.

Meanwhile, Chester will increase their bid for the Shrewsbury midfielder Jamie Tolley today.

City chairman Stephen Vaughan said: "I am determined we earn automatic promotion next season and I have told Mark (Wright) that if the players he needs cost money and those prices are realistic, then we will go for them.

"We have had an offer for Ricky Ravenhill accepted by Doncaster and we will increase our offer for Jamie Tolley.

"The club is buzzing at the moment and it's an extremely exciting place to be."

Two of the players who will join City in training today include a defender who gained promotion with a fellow League Two club last season, and an experienced striker. Both are endeavouring to earn contracts with Chester.

City will travel to Elland Road to face Leeds United in the Carling Cup first round tie on Tuesday, August 22 (kick off 7.45pm). Admission is £12 for adults and £6 for concessions. City's supporters will be housed in the south stand of the Coca Cola Championship club. Ticket details will be announced shortly.

City fans are reminded that today is the last day for purchasing season tickets at discounted prices. The Deva Stadium ticket office will be open between 10 am and 4pm.
