LUKE GARBUTT began his career with Leeds United and was signed from their academy by Everton in 2009, for an initial fee of £600,000, set by a tribunal.

He joined Cheltenham on-loan last season and made his debut in the Football League Trophy against Wycombe Wanderers.

He played in the FA Cup third round against Tottenham, when Spurs triumphed 3-0 – and also proved to be something a free-kick specialist, like the man he is hoping to understudy in the Blues first team, scoring his first goal direct from a free kick at Macclesfield. That strike, on January 31, fired Cheltenham to the top of League Two. He has represented England at under-16, under-17, under-18 and under-19 level.
