LIVERPOOL Under-18s once again showed why there is so much excitement about the talent emerging from the Kirkby Academy as they thrashed Manchester United 6-0 on Saturday.
Prolific striker Adam Morgan continued his incredible scoring run as he netted for the 13th successive game.
Toni Silva and Michael Ngoo both scored twice and Krisztian Adorjan was also on target.
Midfielders Craig Roddan and debutant Lewis Hatch caught the eye as they dominated in the centre of the park.
Coach Rodolfo Borrell said: “To be fair United came with a very young side but we were too, with only four under-18s on the pitch and the rest were all under-17 with a couple of under-16s.
“It was a very good performance. I’m happy with our play. They are getting better and we need to keep it going.
“It is a big result but we need to keep our feet on the ground and keep working.
“Silva scored two very good individual goals, especially the second one, but I had to take him off at half-time to protect him because he has been involved in a lot of games.”
Victory helped Liverpool maintain the pressure on leaders Everton in the race for the Academy League Group C title. The Reds are now just three points behind with two games in hand ahead of next Tuesday’s crunch clash between the Mersey rivals at Finch Farm.
Meanwhile, the Reds have revealed plans to take part in a prestigious Under-19 Champions League next season.
Academy director Frank McParland said: “On August 17 we will play the first game of it against Sporting Lisbon. Hopefully that will be played at Anfield.
“We’ll have to see what the first team fixture list throws up first of all but that is the plan. I don’t have a definitive list of the teams involved but I know Manchester City, Bayern Munich and Lyon are looking to play in it.
“It’s all about our reserves going to a new level next season. We are trying to pit them against top opposition.
“We’ll still be in the domestic league too but this will offer them the chance to play in front of big crowds and against a higher quality of opposition.”
Liverpool Reserves are in action away to Manchester City tonight (7pm).
