CHRISTIAN POULSEN is hoping Liverpool’s second league away victory of the season at Wolves will be the catalyst for a march up the Premier League.

The Dane was included from the start on Saturday for the Reds’ comprehensive 3-0 win at Molineux.

Fernando Torres scored twice, either side of a stunning Raul Meireles volley, to give caretaker boss Kenny Dalglish his first win since taking over.

The midfielder was impressive in the first half, occupying a holding defensive role, before he was withdrawn after 73 minutes.

And the 30-year-old believes the Reds now have a real opportunity to put a run together to challenge for European qualification.

He said: “It’s a long time since we got points away.

“It was an important game if you look at the table, and I hope it will be a good start for the team.

“Now we have two home games, and for me, I’m happy to be in the starting eleven.”

Poulsen has detected a change of style since Dalglish stepped into the gap left by Roy Hodgson’s exit from Anfield earlier this month.

He said: “Kenny hasn’t been here long, and he needs to (get to) know the players and he will slowly adapt his type of football to the team.

“A little difference is that we’re playing more through the middle and it worked pretty good today.

“Raul played really well, the second goal was outstanding, it will be good for the team if he starts to score for the team.

“It’s our first victory away in a long time and I hope it will be a start to playing better away from home.

“Now the next two games are at home and we need the points at the moment.

“We have our captain back in the next game and I hope we can get three points against Fulham next week.”

Liverpool line up against the Cottagers at Anfield on Wednesday night with skipper Steven Gerrard available again after suspension.

And Poulsen will be hoping to keep his place after getting the nod from Dalglish over Jay Spearing who featured in last weekend’s Merseyside Derby.

The Scandinavian recognises the Reds are playing more attractive football now, but was also aware of the necessity on Saturday to match Wolves on a physical level.

He added: “Kenny is a manager who wants to play with the ball, we keep the ball on the floor.

“But everyone knows when you play Wolverhampton who play long kicks, you need to take the chance first.

“And perhaps that’s why I played before Jay (Spearing), because Jay did pretty well against Everton, but we needed little bit more in the air.

“So it was my chance, and I was happy to be back in the squad.”

Poulsen has had a difficult start to his Anfield career since joining from Juventus in August in a £4.5m move.

But he is determined to win over the fans who have sometimes voiced their disapproval towards the Dane.

He said: “I know the fans sometimes shout at me, but I did really good in the first half, and I had two or three misplaced passes in the beginning of the second half.

“Of course, I want to improve my game and I hope I can do that here at Liverpool.”
