JOSE ENRIQUE believes Luis Suarez’s “amazing” hat-trick against Norwich City proves he will become the prolific goalscorer Liverpool crave.
The Spanish full-back was blown away by the Uruguayan’s display in Saturday’s emphatic 3-0 win at Carrow Road.
The first treble of Suarez’s Anfield career was completed with a stunning 45-yard chip which took his tally for the season to 17 in all competitions.
Kenny Dalglish’s side have struggled to score goals all season and prior to the weekend Suarez was the Reds’ top scorer in the Premier League with just eight. However, Enrique is convinced Suarez will shatter that mark next term and he’s delighted to see him hitting top form ahead of next Saturday’s FA Cup final with Chelsea.
“It was an amazing performance from Luis,” Enrique said.
“I don’t think I’ve ever seen a better hat-trick than that.
“They were all amazing goals – the first with his left foot, the second with his right and then the third was unbelievable from so far out.
“We all know Luis is a very special player for us. He’s been really unlucky this season. He’s played like that many times and had many chances and deserved a lot more goals.
“I told him after the game that he just needed a little bit of luck. I know he will score many more goals here in the Premier League.
“Wherever he has been, whether in Uruguay or Holland, if you look at his record he’s scored a lot. I’m sure he will do the same here because he’s a top striker.
“He always plays well, always at 200%. He showed against Norwich exactly what he can do and caused their centre-backs so many problems all the way through the game.
“Luis is so important for us. It’s great to see him doing well and I hope he can score a few more before the end of the season.”
Enrique hailed Saturday’s triumph as the perfect way to head into Cup final week as the Reds bounced back from the home defeat to West Brom.
Eighth placed Liverpool remain just two points adrift of Everton and the left-back is now targeting another victory over Fulham at Anfield tomorrow to ensure they head for Wembley on a high.
“It’s a good start to a big week for us,” Enrique added.
“We produced a good performance against Norwich like we have done many times this season but the difference was we took our chances.
“We have to beat Fulham first before we think about the Cup final. I know we aren’t playing for anything in the league but it’s important for us to get three points to get some confidence ahead of the final.
“It’s a home game and we want to do well. Then we have an amazing final to prepare for.”
Andy Carroll was left out of the squad to face Norwich due to a minor groin injury. The big frontman will be assessed today but he is expected to be fit for the FA Cup final.
