MAXI RODRIGUEZ is angling for a move back to Argentina – and is reportedly ready to ask Kenny Dalglish to release him from the remaining two years of his Anfield contract.

The 30-year-old, who ended last season with a scoring flourish including two hat-tricks in three games is back home in his native Argentina.

He has told local press there that he wants to rejoin his first club, Newell’s Old Boys.

Rodriguez, below, told La Capital: “When I left here, I knew I was coming back. The president (Guillermo Lorenzo) called me and I said yes.

“Now it depends on the contract I have in Liverpool, maybe that can be loosened a little.”

Rodriguez came through the youth set-up to play three first-team seasons for the Rosario-based side before moving to Espanyol in 2002. He joined Liverpool on a free transfer in January 2010 and started 13 of the 23 matches after Kenny Dalglish returned to Anfield.

But with the Reds targeting a number of wide players this summer he looks destined to be only a fringe player next season.

Rodriguez’s age is likely to count against him and, as one of the club’s higher earners, owners Fenway Sports Group would prefer to get better value from new signings.

However, the player would have to take a significant drop in salary in order to return to his homeland.

Defender Martin Kelly has welcomed his old England international team-mate Jordn Henderson to Anfield.

The pair played together with England Under-19s two years ago. Now they will be reacquainted when the Liverpool squad returns to Melwood at the start of July.

“Jordan's a great lad and really down to earth,” said Kelly. “We get on really well.

“He has everything you need to become a footballer at the highest level.

“The thing I like most is that he keeps it nice and simple.

“You can give him the ball under pressure and he will always keep it, even in the tightest situations.

“He's very patient in possession and if you're under pressure you can give it to him and he'll take the sting out of a game.

“He will weigh in with a number of assists every season and score a few too.”

Meanwhile, Liverpool have had approaches for Germany international Marko Marin rebuffed, according to the midfielder’s agent.

The 22-year-old has been linked with a move away from Werder Bremen.

But his agent, Fali Ramadani, says overtures from Liverpool and Spurs were rejected by both player and club.
