MANSFIELD boss Paul Cox led his Blue Square Premier side into their FA Cup second round replay with Lincoln, knowing that a daunting obstacle lay ahead of him should the Stags win.
Never mind Sunday’s third round tie with Liverpool – today, he’s getting married.
The 40-year-old is honouring a promise he made to fiancee Natasha before the Lincoln replay - but he insists ‘football comes first’.
“We were due to be married in June so once we got to the third round draw, she said we’d bring it forward and do it before the Liverpool game,” Cox explained.
“I said yes but we hadn’t beaten Lincoln in the second round replay yet.
“As soon as we did, the first thing the chairman said was, ‘Congratulations’. I said, ‘Thanks, it was a great result’. He said, ‘No, I mean on the marriage’!”
Cox trained with his squad as usual this morning, before swapping his tracksuit for a wedding suit ahead of the ceremony in Nottingham.
And the reception will be held in a marquee at Town’s One Call Stadium.
