FOOTBALL: Runcorn Linnets have hit complications over early-season fixtures.

The first home league game against Cheadle Town on Tuesday, August 15 is expected to be shelved to accommodate the Cheshire Senior Cup that week.

Linnets have been drawn at Alsager Town with the winners travelling to Northwich Vics.

There is a also a potential snag surrounding the first Saturday home game against Castleton Gabriels on August 19 as Wincham Park is staging a private function but Linnets hope this can be resolved.

Matchday and matchball sponsorships at £250 and £100 respectively are available for this new inaugural home date - contact press officer Steve Pritchard on 07710119455 or e-mail sponsorship@runcornlinnetsfc.co.uk

Clashes with Witton home matches in the opening weeks also need sorting.

Linnets went down 2-0 at St Helens Town in Tuesday's opening friendly but showed promise against a side with three matches behind them.

Linnets chairman Stuart White admitted: 'It was nice to see a ball game after all the meetings and planning.

'All in all it was a pleasing performance and a good turnout by our fans.'

Linnets are at Cammell Laird in Birkenhead on Saturday (ko 3pm) and Rossendale on Tuesday (7.45pm).

* Runcorn Town came of age in a friendly against Altrincham with new manager Tony Murphy using 21 players in Tuesday's 2-0 warm-up defeat.

The game was marred when Altrincham's Ashley Brown was taken to hospital with a suspected fractured leg.

Town, who have been drawn at Lymm in the Cheshire Amateur Cup on Saturday, September 23 continue their warm-up at Flint Town United this Saturday (3pm).
