RUNCORN FC Halton report back for training this Saturday with playermanager Chris Lightfoot hoping to make his third signing, writes DAVE BETTLEY.

Striker Nicky Young, who chose Marine instead of the Linnets last season, is again a target.

Lightfoot still has room in his budget after the signings of central defender John Robertson and hometown midfieldman Keiran Durkan. Young is non-contract at College Road and Runcorn could finally get a player they tried to sign three times when he was at Northwich.

Lightfoot said: 'Marine's manager wants him to stay but Nicky would like to play in Conference North.'

Striker Matty Platt, returning to Crewe following his loan, and skipper Dominic Morley, to Southport, are the only departures.

Meanwhile, Runcorn will have a chance of promotion to Nationwide Conference if they finish in the top five. There will be three promotion places - for the champions of Conference North and South Leagues and the winners of the play-offs. These will be contested by the second to fifth teams in the Conference's two regional divisions.

The Northern play-off winners will meet their Southern counterparts in a one-off final.
