RON Yeats, the first Liverpool captain to lift the FA Cup as part of Bill Shankly's legendary Wembley-winning 1965 team, brought the cup to Widnes this week.

In fact it was a replica of the priceless trophy which Anfield's current skipper Steven Gerrard held aloft in Cardiff last month after inspiring the Reds' sensational comeback win over West Ham United.

Winger Ian Callaghan, another veteran of the Liverpool side which defeated Leeds United under the twin towers 41 years ago, joined in the celebrations at St Basil's Social Club, Hough Green.

The occasion was a Reds Legends Night at which David Fairclough and Brian Hall, Liverpool stars of the 1970s, appeared.

The evening followed on from the success last month of a similar event at the Basil's involving Everton heroes Howard Kendall, Colin Harvey, Roger Kenyon, John Bailey and Gordon West.

Both evenings were held in aid of Alder Hey Children's Hospital.
