LEEK Town have launched an audacious bid to sign Witton Albion stalwart Brian Pritchard.

The Staffs club have lodged the official seven days notice of approach for the Witton skipper, arguably their best player over the 10 years he has been with the club.

It is possible that if Pritchard agreed to the move, he could line up against Witton on Tuesday night.

Albion cannot stop Leek talking to Pritchard, but it is hard to see how the Liverpool-based policeman could commit to the travelling.

The Chronicle understands striker Lee Madin is unhappy with his role as a substitute and may want to leave.

Witton host Radcliffe Borough on Saturday, desperate to improve results in line with performances which have not been unimpressive.

On Thursday, winger Ryan Baker - to many a player who could improve Albion's fortunes if given a starting role - striker Lee Spike, full-back Dave Tickle and manager Finley himself are all expected to play for Witton Reserves in their Mid Cheshire League match against Warrington Borough. nTurn to page 75 for details of Wincham Park's England-Northern Ireland schoolboy international and the chance for a boy or girl to win a night to remember.
