LIVERPOOL Reserves boss Rodolfo Borrell was delighted with the way his youngsters fought back to earn a 1-1 draw with Everton in the mini-derby at the Kirkby Academy.

The Blues fielded a strong line up, including Seamus Coleman and Magaye Gueye along with veteran defender David Weir. And the visitors took the lead early in the second half when Greek striker Apostolos Vellios headed home.

However, Borrell's side responded well and grabbed a deserved equaliser 17 minutes from time. Nathan Eccleston raced down the left and his cross was brilliantly volleyed in by Raheem Sterling.

Borrell said: “The players did very well against an experienced team. To play against strong teams like that is good for them. They showed their fighting qualities to come back and get a deserved draw. We could even have won the game.”

Jon Flanagan and Jack Robinson both played the full 90 minutes in front of a crowd including Kenny Dalglish, Steven Gerrard, Jamie Carragher and Robbie Fowler.
