JIMMY Costigan blasted a double to get Crewe FC back to winning ways and give boss Ian O'Reilly a selection headache.

Second-half substitute Costigan fired his seventh and eighth goals of the campaign to inspire the side to a 3-1 win over Broadheath Central at Reaseheath on Saturday.

O'Reilly has admitted that Jon Dawson, who got Crewe level after Broadheath had taken the lead early in the second half, and Lee Westwood are his first-choice strikers.

But he admitted it will be hard to ignore the razor-sharp form of 27-year old Costigan. O'Reilly said: 'He always seems to be in the right place at the right time.

'If you watch him he doesn't do as much as the other strikers I have, but his goal re-cord speaks for itself. I have only given him one start this season, but he is making it very difficult for me to leave him out now. It is a good problem to have.'

A goalless first half was all Westwood could manage, as he was withdrawn with a thigh injury at the break. He is doubtful for the weekend. Costigan came on but it was the visitors who took the lead after a mix-up in the Crewe defence.

Jon Dawson atoned for missing two penalties last week by hitting the equaliser on the hour mark after good work down the left by Mark Blackburn, and from then on it was the Costigan show.

He dispatched a bullet header to give his side the lead before riding a tackle and slotting home to secure maximum points. Crewe visit Whitchurch Alport at 2pm on Saturday.
