IT was good to see Andre Wisdom signing a new long-term contract at Liverpool this week.

It was a no-brainer for both him and the club. Wisdom has done really well since he broke into the first team earlier this month and I’ve been really impressed by him.

It’s been great to see another youngster from the Academy make that step up.

Martin Kelly and Wisdom could be mainstays of the Liverpool side for the next 10 to 15 years.

Andre is physically strong and quick. In time I think he’ll become a very good centre-back but he has also proved he can do a good job at full-back.

Jose Enrique’s injury has given him another shot at an extended run in the side and Sunday’s trip to Manchester United will be a really tough examination for him.

United counter-attack so quickly and he will have Ashley Young, who likes to go both inside and down the outside, flying at him.

But I’ve got no worries about Wisdom – he is ready for it.
