PEPE REINA made a bad error against Manchester City but I still believe Liverpool are blessed to have a goalkeeper of his calibre.

There has been a lot of speculation about Reina’s future but I really hope he stays put in the summer. I don’t know what he’s thinking but I certainly don’t go along with the idea that Liverpool should consider selling him.

He’s only 30 and has got another seven or eight years at the highest level. OK, his form has been indifferent but he’s still an excellent No 1 and will get back to his absolute best.

If he went we would have to buy because we don’t have another keeper at the club capable of making that step up.

Who could we go for? You could pluck a promising keeper from a mid-table club but it’s a totally different challenge playing in goal for Liverpool with the expectations and the fact you might only have two or three saves to make a game.

You couldn’t defend Reina for the mistake against City because there was no need for him to come rushing off his line. He has always been good at reading play and obviously felt he could get there but that was a rash decision and it cost Liverpool victory.

We should have beaten City home and away but our errors allowed them to force a draw in both games.

It was a shame because Brendan Rodgers had clearly learned from the timid display at Old Trafford.

In contract we were brave and played the game in City’s half.

I expect us to get back to winning ways against West Brom on Monday night.

After a fantastic start to the season the Baggies have fallen away and are conceding too many goals.
