I'M hoping the return of Lucas Leiva from injury will enable Steven Gerrard to get forward more.

Lucas will be Brendan Rodgers' holding midfielder and I'm sure the manager will look to Joe Allen to dictate play a bit further up the field.

That should allow Gerrard the freedom to push on and link up with Luis Suarez.

There's no doubt that Gerrard has played a more disciplined role so far this season. Rodgers is massive on tactics and shape, and I think Gerrard has been restricted a little bit.

He's at his best when he's playing off the cuff.

With Lucas and Allen keeping the shape for him, the captain should have a licence to attack.
