JAY SPEARING is determined to use Liverpool’s tour of North America to impress new boss Brendan Rodgers.

The Reds midfielder enjoyed an extended run in the side last season as he clocked up 25 appearances but he’s ready to start again following the departure of Kenny Dalglish.

“When a new manager comes in it’s a clean slate for everyone,” Spearing said.

“We all have to knuckle down and show the manager what we’re all about and fight for our place for the season ahead.

“New players will come in but I need to concentrate on myself. I need to show the manager he doesn’t need to sign players in my position.

“It’s going to be a new way of playing and all the players are looking forward to it. Different managers have different types of sessions and we have to learn quite quickly if we want to be a successful team.

“We’ve got four weeks now to get ourselves ready for the season. I need to make sure I’m ready for when I’m needed.

“Last year we went on tour to the Far East and when we got there, we had fans waiting at 5am for us to arrive. I don’t think any of the players could believe the amount of people stood there at that time.

“Now we want to go across to America, expand our fanbase and make them proud and play some good football.”
