THE Blues will be hoping history repeats itself in the fourth round of the FA Youth Cup when they face Tottenham Hotspur for the second successive year.

City beat York City 3-0 at the Deva Stadium on Wednesday to book a meeting with Spurs, who triumphed 1-0 over Southampton on the same night.

The two sides met in the same round in last year’s competition, with the Blues coming out on top 1-0 at the Deva Stadium. This time the tie will be played at either White Hart Lane or Tottenham’s Spurs Lodge training ground.

City’s head of youth Simon Davies is looking forward to trying to emulate predecessor Jim Hackett’s achievement of reaching the fifth round.

He said: “It was a good result and a good performance against York in the end. It was a physical game but we knew it would be as we had watched them in the round before against Bury.”

Blues boss Bobby Williamson and assistant Jimmy Bone attended the York game, along with a handful of first-team players.

Davies added: “In fairness, Bobby and now Jimmy watch us all the time, it is refreshing to see them at youth games.”

James Gregory opened the scoring for the Blues in the first half and Paul McManus made it 2-0 after the break with an excellent effort.

A spectacular strike from Lloyd Ellams sealed it in the 89th minute with the players already receiving the news they would face Spurs.

“The young lads are getting the chance and they always will if they are good enough,” added Davies. “We’ll give Spurs a good game and we have nothing to lose.”

Chester: Dorman, Robson, Feliceiello, Rowlands, Vickers, Owen, Rule (Morrin 82), Gregory, Ellams, McManus, Mitchell (Thorpe 72). Subs: Newman, Williams, Williams.

City’s youth team, who beat Wigan 1-0 last Saturday, host Shrewsbury Town at the Airfield tomorrow (10.30am).
