INSPIRED by two-goal hot-shot Philly Greenhalgh, Carlsberg West Cheshire League Division One outfit Vauxhall Motors Reserves progressed to their third semi-final of the season after their midweek Pyke Cup second-round replay with Castrol Social finished 2-0.

On Saturday, Greenhalgh once again made his mark, and was joined on the scoresheet by Danny McNicholas as Vauxhall savoured a 2-0 triumph in their Division One fixture at West Kirby.

Castrol, who scored through Carl Ngiam, crashed 7-1 at home to Merseyside Police, Mark Ellison (3) Chris Killen (2) Vic Charles and Ashley Ruane netting for the visitors.

Relegation threatened Ellesmere Port picked up a precious point following a 1-1 stalemate with Maghull.

Andy Walker contributed with a timely equaliser.

Capenhurst Villa's promotion drive in Division Two was hampered as a result of their 0-0 draw with Blacon YC.

Cape are still handily poised in third place, but second placed New Brighton took advantage by eclipsing Ashville Reserves, 4-0, to open up a three point gap.

In Division Three, Willaston remain top after scraping a 3-2 result at St Werburgh's thanks to goals from Karl Dunbar (2) and Lee Cairns.

Grange Athletic also maintained interest after winning 2-0 against Ellesmere Port's second string side, Robbie Shepherd and Carl Dunbar finding the net.

Elsewhere, Capenhurst Villa Reserves scored twice through James Fletcher and Tom Jones but their efforts counted for nothing after a 4-2 defeat by Merseyside Police Reserves.
