WITTON Albion - Great Britain's most prolific goalscorers - could go top of the UniBond League on Tuesday.

The crowd may even top 1,000 for their showdown with leaders Telford United at the Britannia Carpets Stadium.

But if it comes down to who has the deadliest marksmen then Witton will have the sharp edge.

So far they have scored 71 league goals, which is more than any other team of their own level or higher in the whole of the country.

They piled in seven against play-off hopefuls Whitby at the weekend to move into second place.

But, says manager Jim Vince: 'Telford are still the best team in the league. They must be - they're top.

'They've been there all season and have been our target all that time. Now they are within our sights.

'We can shake them off the top, but I'm not bothered if we don't - yet. Our main objective is still the play-offs and if we overtake Telford in the process, great.

'Six more wins and I reckon we'll be there. Then we can start thinking about the title.

'We can still improve, mostly in our concentration, keeping the ball - and we could shoot better! We have not had the blip most teams have and we are not invincible. But we are playing some fantastic football.

'And that's the message we have been sending out all season. We want to entertain - come and watch us.'

Before Telford arrive at Wincham, Witton travel to lowly Ashton United on Saturday. They are without centre back Tony Barras who is serving a one-match ban.

Griff Jones (concussion), Frost (thigh) and Chris Gahgan (flu) are all fit, however.

Albion's seven-goal haul - their first in 24 years after Stocks-bridge (2002) and Horwich (1983) - featured five goals for their 19-year-old centre forward Adam Warlow, on loan from Crewe Alex until the end of the season.

Warlow repeated the feat of midfielder John White (1982), Frank Fidler, George Stubbs, Trevor Ogden and Peter Henderson.

Vince said: 'He should have had two more!

'We've been through the video and he knows with his ability he ought to have had seven.

'He has improved tremendously with us and it was a special feat.'

Warlow's teammates presented him with the autographed match-ball.
