MIDDLEWICH Town manager Terry Murphy hit out at Cheshire FA as he prepared to do without veteran defender Rob Corcoran for five weeks.

Corcoran was sent off playing for Middlewich last season for dissent.

Murphy said: 'I told the referee at the time he was right, but now Rob will miss six games.

'He threw the ball away, allegedly at an opponent, but that was not the case at all.

'He is 38 and has never been sent off before in 20-odd years and they give him 35 days for kicking the ball away.

'A professional would have got one game and it's time we caught up with Wales, where all suspensions, amateur and pro, are dealt with in terms of games.

'In Cheshire we have full-time staff and smashing new offices and we cannot even bring the game up to date.' Lee Kimber, sent off playing seven-aside football, also begins a 35-day ban, but otherwise Murphy hopes to have a full squad at home to Linotype on Saturday and at Crewe next Tuesday.

After Middlewich's 2-0 victory over Golborne Sports, Murphy said: 'We are playing all right. They hit the post before the break, but we should have been four or five up by then. I am pleased that apart from ourselves and Barnton, everybody is taking points off each other.' Golborne won the Mid Cheshire League Second Division last season and were tough opponents.

However, Jamie Stanton gave Middlewich the edge from Rob Hopley's pass after 10 minutes and they went close through Will Hurley and Will Killey before the break.

David Dale secured the points from close range late on and John Hurst was unlucky at the death.

Middlewich Reserves begin their season at Styal Reserves on Saturday.
