CHESTER City held on to sixth place in League Two on Saturday despite seeing their match at Darlington postponed.

Heavy frost in the North East meant the match could not go ahead, despite the best efforts of Darlington’s ground staff to protect the pitch from the elements.

Referee Rob Shoebridge postponed the fixture following a 1.20pm pitch inspection, meaning the Chester team and their supporters had made the long journey to Darlington in vain.

Fortunately for the sixth-placed Blues, play-off rivals Chesterfield lost 2-1 at Accrington and remain seventh. Rotherham, who lie fifth, were unable to pull away from Chester as their match at Bradford City also fell victim to the weather.

Next up for the Blues is a home meeting with Bury on Saturday, followed by a Boxing Day trip to Morecambe. Both matches kick-off at 3pm.
