A LATE goal from Tom Hannigan secured an important 1-0 win for Vauxhall Motors at Hucknall Town on Tuesday.
The Motormen left it very late to secure victory over the Blue Square North’s basement club.
Motors striker/assistant boss Anthony Wright actually had the ball in the net three times in the first half, but all three efforts were ruled out by the officials.
It was left to Hannigan, who has developed a knack in recent weeks of scoring crucial goals in the dying seconds of games, to once more give Motors the reward their efforts deserved with a strike in the 90th minute
The victory lifted Motors into the top 10 for the first time this season and followed their 1-1 draw against Gainsborogh Trinity at the Motassist Arena on Saturday.
The weekend match was a scrappy encounter and Gainsborough took the lead after just seven minutes.
Keeper James Coates parried an initial header hit straight at him but veteran former Chester, Sheffield United and Huddersfield striker Luke Beckett reacted quickest to poke the ball home from close range.
But in the second half Mattie Burke picked out Anthony Wright in the penalty box. He was brought down and Tom Field smashed the ball home from the spot.
On Saturday Motors travel to Blyth Spartans and on Tuesday they are on the road again as they take on Redditch United.
Both teams are battling near the foot of the division and Motors will be hoping to claim as many points as possible from the games to take them closer to the edge of the Blue Square North play-off zone.
Vauxhall will be inviting players from the original Motors factory team to the Motassist Arena for the final home game of the season against Kings Lynn on Saturday, April 25.
