Vauxhall Motors 4 Burscough 1

A STRONG second-half display saw Motors run out comfortable winners in Tuesday’s friendly at Rivacre Park.

The home side opened the scoring on 11 minutes when Lee Dames delivered a fine cross from the right and Simon Thelwell was on hand to head home from six yards.

Burscough equalised almost immediately through John Kennedy and the sides went into the break level.

But Motors dominated the second half and had Burscough chasing shadows at times.

They restored their lead on 65 minutes when Craig Mahon danced through the heart of the Linnets’ defence before hitting a 25-yarder which dipped over keeper Tim Horn.

It was 3-1 on 72 minutes when Steve Wainwright crossed from the right wing and new Motors captain Tom Hannigan made no mistake.

In the final minutes, Danny Fearnehough made it 4-1 for Vauxhall, who lost 2-1 to Wrexham on Saturday.

Tom Rutter put the hosts ahead in the first half, but the Dragons’ hit back after the break through Neil Ashton (pen) and Mark Creighton.

Carl Macauley’s men host neighbours Tranmere Rovers tomorrow (7pm).
