Barnton 2 Malpas 2

MALPAS started the new Cheshire League season with a good away point on Saturday.

Against a totally new-look Barnton side, it was the visitors who had all the early pressure, with a number of half-chances not being taken.

Steve Weaver and Richard O’Keefe controlled the midfield, pulling the strings for the wingers to get in behind the home defence.

Joe Sumner pushed a good ball through on 40 minutes to Lee Parry, only for his shot to hit the post.

Barnton went ahead on 44 minutes when a break following a Malpas corner saw Anthony Davies score.

Malpas kicked off for the second half intent on getting back into the game and they soon found themselves on level terms, Steve Watkins (51mins) netting from close range following a corner.

Malpas then went 2-1 up when Lee Parry slotted home after 62 minutes. But Matthew Wrench made it 2-2 late on with a top-corner strike.

New signing Ryan Wilkinson was due to play against Congleton last night, a match played after The Chronicle had gone to press.

In Division One, a first-half strike from Damien Woods was not enough for Tarporley Victoria as they lost 2-1 at Pilkington on Saturday.
