LACHE held their nerve during a penalty shoot-out to knock Blacon Youth Reserves out of the Tom Gerraghty Memorial Trophy.

In what was the only fixture to survive the wet weather in Saturday’s Chester & District League programme, the sides were tied at 0-0 after 90 minutes and extra time.

Lache goalkeeper Chris Mis took the man of the match accolade. he made two great saves from Rowan Brooks and Tom George during the shoot-out and also netted one himself from the spot to help his team to a 4-1 win. Callum Humphries, Liam McGovern and substitute Eddie Shields scored the other Lache penalties.

Waterlogged pitches put paid to weekend matches in the West Cheshire League, Cheshire League and Chester Sunday League.

The funeral of former Upton AA player, manager and chairman Geoff Gornall will take place tomorrow (Friday, January 4) at Blacon Crematorium (midday start).

Family and friends will then gather for refreshments at the Cheshire County Sports Club.
