FLEETWOOD Town may be about to open the door for Vauxhall Motors to extend their stay in Blue Square North.

The Cod Army, managed by former Tranmere Rovers midfielder Micky Mellon, have appealed to the Football Conference to reinstate the points expunged from the records when Farsley Celtic were expelled from the league and disbanded amid financial turmoil.

The move would improve Fleetwood’s chances of promotion to the Blue Square Premier as they took maximum points from Celtic, but it would also aid Motors, as they still had a game to play against the now defunct club. Under Fleetwood’s proposal, Motors would be gifted three points as a result.

Should the Conference accede to Fleetwood’s request, Motors’ only other rival to benefit would be Harrogate and the Motormen would close the gap on Redditch and the final Blue Square North survival spot.

Fleetwood are confident that the Conference will uphold their appeal, reigniting Motors’ survival hopes so long as they win their penultimate game on Saturday at Redditch.

Motors are on the lookout for female players who want to get into football next season.

The Motormen expect to run girls teams at both under 12s and U14s level and anyone interested should contact youth development officer, Linda Edmunds on 0151 339 5447.
