THE under 15s team from Chester Nomads has chalked up an historic first for the club.

They defeated Waverton Wasps 3-1 to win the Cheshire Junior Cup – the first county title to be claimed by a Nomads team.

Alessandro Malletta and Luke Chard (2) scored for the Nomads in the final, which was played at neutral Lostock Gralam.

The team is coached by Marc Lawrence and his assistant Stuart Rain.

Marc said: “We are absolutely delighted for the boys, they have played extremely well this season and this is the icing on the cake.

“We have had a tough run in this competition, with all our games apart from one being away from home.”

More than 90 teams from across Cheshire entered the competition in September.

On the way to the final, Nomads defeated Sale United (8-1), Broadheath Central Lions (2-1), Nantwich Town (6-0), Raker Boys of Wallasey (3-2) and Eastbrom United (6-1).

The final brought together two sides from the Chester & District Junior League.

Marc added: “Both teams know each other well, which all went towards making it a great atmosphere on the day.”

Nomads took the lead in the first half when a shot by Chard found the bottom corner. Malletta doubled the lead with a cheeky little dink past the keeper before Waverton halved the deficit to make it 2-1 at the break.

Chard lobbed the Wasps keeper with 10 minutes to go to seal the win for Nomads.
