Vauxhall Motors continued their pre-season preparations with a dominant 3-0 win over Evostik First Division North side Cammell Laird at Kirklands.

Karl Noon was at the double with two goals to secure the victory, with a trialist also scoring.

After just six minutes, Noon capitalised on a mix-up in the Lairds defence to calmly slot the ball from home 10 yards.

Motors pressed home their advantage when the trialist skipped past two challenges before smashing his effort in off the upright from outside the area.

Just before the interval, Noon was given far too much space in the penalty area and rifled the ball home from eight yards to give Motors a 3-0 lead.

Both teams made wholesale changes in the interval and despite good passing play from both teams, neither could find a goal.

The first-half display was enough to seal Vauxhall’s second win of the pre-season campaign and with the league fast approaching, manager Carl Macauley has been very active in supplementing the squad for the forthcoming season.

Two new forwards have been added to the side with Lloyd Ellams and Matthew Kosylo coming into the team.

Ellams, 22, arrives at Rivacre Park from Welsh side Conwy Borough subject to international clearance.

With loans spells at Droylsden and a two-year stay at Stalybridge Celtic, the former Chester City forward has plenty of experience in Conference North.

Joining him at the Motors is Kosylo, who has been on trial with the side during pre-season and has impressed enough to be offered a place in the squad.

The versatile former Ashton United man can operate out wide and as a central striker.

Both players will be hoping to cement their places in the side for the league campaign.

Vauxhall continued their pre-season programme with a match against Bala Town last night, played after the Pioneer had gone to press. They host Prestatyn Town on Saturday (3pm) and go to Prescot Cables next Tuesday (7.30pm).
