Moore Utd 1 Tarporley V 0

VICS lost out late on to promotion rivals Moore in a tight and even Cheshire League battle.

The hosts netted a heartbreaking last-gasp winner to move to within four points of second-placed Vics.

There was nothing between the sides in a tense first half. Moore had a couple of half-chances while a Steve Wright’s volley went agonisingly wide for Tarporley.

The second half followed suit – tight with a frenetic pace – Vics were holding firm in defence.

The killer blow arrived four minutes into injury time when Vics conceded a header from a corner.

Man of the match for the visitors was Henry Buckley.

Maine Rd Res 2 Malpas 2

A STIRRING second-half comeback extended Malpas’ unbeaten run to four weeks.

The hosts went ahead on 25 minutes and added a second five minutes before the break.

But the fightback began when Martin Ormesher made it 2-1 on the hour.

After having a penalty appeal turned down and going close on several occasions, Malpas got the goal their pressure merited when Richard Sadler steered in a glorious header.

Malpas almost snatched a winner, but Roy Cardus was denied by a last-ditch tackle.

Next up is this Saturday’s derby with high-flying Division Two neighbours Tarporley Victoria.
