AIRBUS UK Broughton are back up to second in the Welsh Premier and determined to keep rivals Bangor City at bay.

Saturday’s 2-0 home win over Port Talbot Town – coupled with Bangor’s heavy 6-0 loss at leaders TNS – saw the Wingmakers leapfrog Nev Powell’s men.

If they can stay there, they will secure entry into next season’s Europa League – the club’s first ever taste of European football.

Airbus boss Andy Preece said: “To be a point clear is fantastic.

“Now we have to try and maintain and keep the pressure firmly on Bangor.

“We need to keep working hard and if we do that we’ll have a great chance.”

The Wingmakers wrapped up a routine home win against Port Talbot on Saturday thanks to first-half strikes from midfielder Jason Jarrett and striker Steve Abbott.

Jarrett slotted in his first goal for the club on 14 minutes after the ball broke to him in the box.

Abbott completed the scoring two minutes before half-time, firing low into the bottom corner on the turn after Port Talbot afforded him too much space in the area.

Ryan Wade, Abbott, Wayne Riley and Jordan Johnson went close to extending the advantage in the second half.

Preece said: “There was a lot of pressure on us as we knew if Port Talbot won they’d go level on points with us.

“They’re a really good side and they’ve been on a fantastic run so credit to my lads.

“It was a really good, solid performance and we should have won by more.”

Preece felt the win was a real ‘squad effort’.

He added: “We had Tom Field suspended and Chris Budrys injured. They are two key players for us, but I always knew it was going to be about a squad effort. Everybody who was involved on Saturday produced the goods.”

Next up for Airbus is Saturday’s trip to Carmarthen Town (3.45pm) – a match which will be televised live on S4C. Carmarthen have always been a bogey side for the Wingmakers, who also struggle to win in televised matches.

Tom Field serves the second game of his three-match ban, while Preece also has injury concerns over Chris Budrys, Luke McCarthy and Richie Partridge.
