IT was a day for the defenders as Airbus cemented their place in the Welsh Premier League top 10 on Saturday.

Former Premier League full-back Jamie Smith broke his duck for the club with a first-half double before centre-back Mark Allen put the seal on a comfortable win.

Caersws arrived in chilly Broughton following back-to-back victories, but it soon became clear they would have no chance of extending their winning run.

The Wingmakers opened the scoring in the 15th minute when Smith let fly with a 20-yard angled drive.

The ex-Wolves and Crystal Palace man was revelling in the right-wing role handed to him by Harrison, and he doubled his tally a minute before the break by finishing off a neat free-kick move.

The one-way traffic continued after the restart, and captain Allen made it three just past the hour mark when he turned in Danny Desormeaux’s cross.

Airbus, who were away to Elements Cefn Druids last night in a match which took place after The Chronicle went to press, are at home to Port Talbot Town on Saturday (2.30pm).
