A CAMPAIGN to bring Runcorn FC back home gets under way tonight. A group of 'disillusioned' supporters are launching Runcorn FC - Mission Possible and will hold their first open meeting at the War Memorial Club in York Place, 8pm.

They are urging attendance and support from football fans in Run-corn as they investigate ways for the Linnets to return to the town.

The fans behind the group say they have set up a steering group as a 'last resort' and if a move back to Runcorn isn't found over the next few years, one of the greatest non-league names will disappear.

The problem the group faces is there are no facilities of the required standard in Runcorn and even if they wanted to leave Halton Stadium, the club doesn't have any money to invest in a new ground.

But the supporters believe that where there is a will there is a way. Spokesman Simon Charlesworth said: 'We believe support for the club still exists with many fans still following their fortunes in the papers. 'But these fans will only return to support the team on the terraces if the team is playing in Runcorn. 'When Runcorn left Canal Street, many fans refused to travel outside the town to support the team and when the club added Halton to the name, they alienated fans further.

'If this trend of losing supporters continues, then the Linnets will undoubtedly fold in a few years' time. 'The time to act is now. Lots of suggestions have been made over the last few years but not explored. 'We urge anybody with an interest to come to one of these meetings and make their views known.'
