ALSAGER Faculty completed a treble with a thrilling victory over Royal Oak in the Inter-League Cup final on Saturday.

Faculty went ahead on the half-hour mark after a fine move ended with Carl Mallett heading home.

But Royal Oak, of the East Cheshire League, proved tough opponents and equalised within five minutes of the start of the second period.

Both teams threatened a winner but neither were able to conjure up a second goal in normal time.

Oak went 2-1 up with a goal early in the first period of overtime, but Faculty refused to give up and Tom Broadbent levelled with just seconds remaining to send the game to a penalty shoot-out.

The students kept their nerve the better to win 3-0 on spot-kicks and claim their third trophy of the campaign.

The Faculty had already won the Crewe and District League Combined Division and the AJ Cooke Trophy.
