The FA Cup, despite all its detractors, remains a competition held in the highest of regard by English clubs, especially ones in the lower echelons.

Chester FC will find enter the fourth qualifying round stage alongside the 23 other sides from the National League on Monday, October 3, when the draw for the competition is made at FA headquarters at Wembley Stadium.

The third qualifying round takes place this weekend (October 1) with 40 games being played by the 80 clubs that made it through the previous round - nine of who are from Level Nine, the lowest ranked level in this round.

Ties for the fourth qualifying round will then take place on the weekend of October 15 with Chester looking to make it to the first round proper for the first time since 2014.

Last season they were on the wrong end of a 1-0 decision at Altrincham in what was a dismal game of football.

But the previous season was one to savour as they beat Stockport County in the fourth qualifying round before seeing off League Two side Southend United in the first round at Roots Hall. They then drew 0-0 with League One Barnsley at Oakwell before losing the replay 3-0.

There are some interesting names in this weekend's third qualifying round who will be looking to progress and could find themselves matched up with Chester in the next round.
