CHESTER CITY hope to complete the signing of the Hull City defender Carl Regan later today, after the player impressed during a trial period this week.

The former Everton and Barnsley player, who will be 24 next month, has been training at the Deva Stadium this week, and City boss Mark Wright has liked what he's seen. He said: "Carl has done extremely well in his short spell with us, and hopefully we will have him in place in time for our weekend game.

"The player has an excellent playing pedigree and without doubt he will be an excellent addition to our squad."

Regan started his career at Goodison Park, where he was an integral part of the Blues' successful youth side a few seasons ago, he then moved on to Barnsley, before joining Hull City in the summer of 2002.

The player, who can play either as a right wing-back or in the centre of midfield, was a virtual ever present with the Humdersiders last season, but has found first-team opportunities at a premium this year.

An agreement has been reached between Chester's chairman Stephen Vaughan and his counterpart at Hull, and it is expected that Regan will initially sign for the Deva Stadium club on a months loan, with a view to a permanent signing.

City, who lead the Nationwide Conference by four points, are next in action tomorrow when they travel to face Tamworth at The Lamb Ground. Chester will be without their injured goalkeeper Wayne Brown who broke a bone in his foot during training on Tuesday. Ian McCaldon returns for his eighth League game of the season.
